Real RSS Feeds

Well, guess what? I have created an account in bloglines - my first. Using these blogs is a bit like using a newspaper online - but I have the choice of what information I want to access. Some of the feeds I have added are the John Oxley Library, Wired Top Stories, BBC News, OPAL Training, News, Reviews and Author Interviews. Information from these sites will keep staff abreast of what is happening in libraries, the latest in technology, staff training, new books and I'm sure there are countless other uses for these feeds.

Social Networking

I have decided not to join Facebook, MySpace, or any of the other social networking sites, as they are just not my thing. I have better things to do with my time. I have concerns about privacy issues. Who is to say that when a person registers on one of these networking sites, that they are the person they claim to be. When you join one of these sites, you are putting yourself out on the world wide web. Not for me.

Wiki Wanderings

I have discovered that wiki is an amazing tool which can be used in lots of different areas of libraries.

Library wiki can be used by us all to share and access information about everything to do with libraries, including new programs, ideas, designs and technology.

This is place that we may all come together and share our ideas and thoughts.

Wiki can be used to access information on anything from marketing to displays, services offered, reference resources and information techn0logy.

Annapurna Mountains, Nepal

Well, I have just discovered "flickr" - wow - what a tool to use. It's absolutely amazing what you can find. I have also checked out different library sites in flickr. These photos give me a better understanding of what is happening in other libraries, and how they look. The library where I am based "Coolum Beach Library" is also in flickr. It's a whole new world to me. The photo I chose for my blog is the Annapurna Mountains in Nepal. I travelled to Nepal with my husband 11 years ago, and we did a trek around the Annapurna Circuit, staying in small village along the way. Nepal is such a spiritual place with the most stunning scenery you can imagine.

Learner of Blogs

As a brand new blogger, my world is opening up to new technology - I had no idea what a blog was previously. I have checked out different library blogs, and find it facinating to observe how so much information can be shared and commented upon. I can certainly see how blogs can be of benefit to libraries. People can blog about activities, book reviews, news and events in libraries. Way to go.
